Clean Air Zone in practice
Clean Air Zones operate in several English cities, including Birmingham, Bradford, Bristol and Sheffield. Class C zones charge non-compliant buses, coaches, taxis, lorries, vans and minibuses; class D zones also charge cars. For vans, the minimum standard is Euro 6 for diesel and Euro 4 for petrol.
Zones run around the clock, and charges are paid online through the government service within a set window before or after the day of travel. Removal and delivery firms working in these cities need compliant vehicles or build the charge into prices.
