Disabled Facilities Grant in practice
Disabled Facilities Grants are available from councils in England, Wales and Northern Ireland for adaptations such as widening doors, installing ramps, grab rails, a stairlift or a level access shower. The council usually arranges an assessment by an occupational therapist or similar assessor, and the grant must be approved before work starts.
Maximum amounts differ between England, Wales and Northern Ireland. The grant is not available in Scotland, where councils have other arrangements.
