LOLER in practice
LOLER applies to lifting equipment used at work, including forklift trucks, hoists, cranes and lifts. It requires lifting operations to be properly planned and supervised, equipment to be suitable and strong enough, and periodic thorough examinations by a competent person, with reports kept.
Businesses buying or hiring forklifts or other lifting equipment should ask for the current thorough examination report and agree who arranges the next one. Equipment used to lift people is examined more frequently.
