Low Emission Zone (Scotland) in practice
Scotland's four Low Emission Zones operate 24 hours a day, every day, including public holidays. Vans must meet Euro 6 for diesel or Euro 4 for petrol, and heavier vehicles Euro VI. Unlike English Clean Air Zones, there is no way to prepay: a non-compliant vehicle entering a zone receives a penalty charge.
Penalties increase for repeat entries by the same vehicle within 90 days. Removal companies and anyone hiring a van in these cities should check the vehicle before driving into the centre.
