ULEZ in practice
The ULEZ operates 24 hours a day, every day except Christmas Day, across all London boroughs. Vehicles that do not meet its emission standards, including vans up to 3.5 tonnes, must pay a daily charge. Heavier vehicles fall under London's separate Low Emission Zone.
The ULEZ is separate from the Congestion Charge in central London, so a non-compliant vehicle can pay both. Lorries over 12 tonnes also need an HGV safety permit to operate in most of Greater London.
