Waste carrier registration in practice
If you use a private business to take away household waste, such as a skip company or a clearance service, government guidance says you must check that it is on the register of waste carriers, selecting the upper tier. England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland each have their own register.
Checking the register and keeping a receipt protects you: householders who give waste to an unauthorised carrier can be fined if it is fly-tipped. Councils' own collections count as authorised.
