Boiler Upgrade Scheme in practice
The Boiler Upgrade Scheme helps property owners in England and Wales replace fossil fuel heating, such as gas, oil, LPG or direct electric systems, with a heat pump or, in some cases, a biomass boiler. An MCS certified installer applies on the owner's behalf through Ofgem, which contacts the owner to confirm; the grant is paid to the installer and deducted from the price.
There are conditions: the applicant must own the property, most new builds and social housing are excluded, hybrid systems that keep a fossil fuel boiler are not funded, and the installation must be completed within a set period after the application.
