BS 7671 in practice
BS 7671, often called the IET Wiring Regulations, sets requirements for the design, installation and verification of electrical installations. Approved Document P refers to it as the way to meet the Building Regulations for electrical safety in homes, and electrical installation condition reports assess installations against it.
The standard is updated periodically, so an older installation that met the edition in force when it was installed may not meet the current one. An inspection report distinguishes between issues that are dangerous, potentially dangerous or recommended for improvement.
