FENSA and CERTASS are among the competent person schemes authorised for the replacement of windows and external doors. A replacement window is a controlled fitting under the Building Regulations, so the work must meet energy efficiency and safety requirements; a registered installer notifies it and the homeowner receives a certificate.
Buyers' solicitors routinely ask for FENSA or CERTASS certificates when a home with replacement windows is sold. If one is missing, the scheme can often help trace it.
