Smart charge point regulations in practice
Since 30 June 2022, charge points sold in Great Britain for private charging at home or at work must meet smart functionality and device security requirements under the Electric Vehicles (Smart Charge Points) Regulations 2021. These include the ability to shift charging times and default settings that avoid peak demand.
Installation is also electrical work, usually notifiable under Part P in England, and the charge point must be registered with the network operator. Ask your installer for confirmation that the unit complies.
