Part P in practice
Approved Document P explains how to meet the electrical safety requirements for dwellings in England. Notifiable work includes installing a new circuit, replacing a consumer unit, and additions or alterations to circuits in special locations such as rooms containing a bath or shower.
Notifiable work must be certified, either by an electrician registered with a competent person scheme or through Building Control. Work that is not notifiable still has to be done safely and to the relevant standard.
