Competent person scheme in practice
Installers can join a competent person scheme to self-certify types of building work, such as replacement windows, heating systems, electrical work or cavity wall insulation, instead of applying to Building Control each time. The government publishes the list of authorised schemes and which types of work each covers.
After the job, the homeowner receives a certificate from the scheme. Registration is specific to the type of work, so check that an installer is registered for the job you want.
