Gas Safe Register in practice
Under the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations 1998, businesses doing gas work within the scope of the regulations must be on the Gas Safe Register. Registered engineers carry an ID card showing the categories of work, such as boilers, cookers or fires, they are qualified for.
Check an engineer's card and the register before any gas work, including disconnecting a cooker or boiler. Although not technically a competent person scheme, its registered engineers have the same responsibility for Building Regulations compliance for gas appliances.
