If the car is damaged, has a failed engine or is only fit for scrap, a few extra rules apply to who may take it and how you may be paid. Describe your car once and one buyer in your area gets the chance to make you an offer.

What decides the offer
Make, model, age and mileage set the starting point. A missing V5C or a gap in the service record makes a buyer nervous and costs money.
Cars with accident damage or engine failure are valued on parts, repair cost and resale abroad as much as on the road value. Be precise about faults in your description. A buyer who discovers a problem on collection will reduce the price there and then, and an offer made on a false description is not one you can hold them to.
Online valuations give a guide, not a price. The figure that counts is the one the buyer confirms after seeing the car, so ask whether an offer is fixed or subject to inspection.
Outstanding finance
Ask your lender for a settlement figure before you agree a sale. Many dealers will pay the settlement directly to the lender and the balance to you, but get that arrangement in writing.
Buyers routinely run a history check that shows outstanding finance, insurance write-off markers and mileage anomalies. Being open about finance at the start saves an awkward conversation on collection day.
Make a requestBefore you hand over the keys
- confirm the final price in writing, and whether collection is included
- see the payment arrive and clear in your account before the car leaves
- remove personal belongings, garage fobs, toll tags and parking permits
- log out of the car's apps and delete saved addresses and paired phones
- for a scrap car, get the certificate of destruction and keep it
- cancel or transfer your insurance and any breakdown cover
In Malta: data protection and registration
The GDPR applies to selling your vehicle; in Malta the Information and Data Protection Commissioner (IDPC) is the supervisory authority. If a supplier processes personal data on your behalf, you need a data processing agreement.
Maltese companies are registered with the Malta Business Registry. Ask suppliers for their company and VAT numbers, and whether they work in English, Maltese or both.

What happens to your request
You confirm your mobile number with a text code and your email address with a link. We then show the request to businesses in your area, without your name or contact details. Only one business can take it on; it pays Offrano for the request, and it costs you nothing.
Before that business sees your details, we email you its name, address and phone number. We check only that it is a registered business, for example through its Malta Business Registry entry or VAT number, not the quality of its work. We cannot promise that a business will respond; if nobody takes the request within 21 days, we withdraw it. Offrano is not a party to any contract for the work.

Can I sell a car that still has finance on it?
Not without settling the finance, because the lender owns the car until the agreement is paid off. Get a settlement figure from the lender. Many dealers pay the lender directly and the rest to you; put that in writing.
Can a scrap dealer pay me in cash?
Payment must be by bank transfer or cheque. If the facility repairs and sells the vehicle instead, other payment methods are allowed, but you will not receive a certificate of destruction.
Do I get my vehicle tax back when I sell?
Yes, for any full calendar months remaining. The tax does not transfer to the buyer, who must tax the car before driving it.

Yes, through the link in any email from Offrano. If a business has already taken it on, we pass your withdrawal to it straight away.
What does the request cost me?
