Adapting a home is about making everyday things possible again: getting in through the front door, moving between rooms, using the bathroom without help. Good adaptations are planned around the person who lives there and designed to fit in with the house, not to look like a hospital. Your request is passed to exactly one business that carries out adaptations in your area. We never ask about anyone's health or diagnosis; we only need to know about the home and the work.

The adaptations people ask for most
The bathroom comes first for many households. Replacing a bath with a level-access shower or a wet room removes the step over the bath edge, and the floor is laid to a fall so water drains away. Grab rails, a fixed shower seat, a raised or comfort-height toilet and lever taps can be part of the same job.
Getting around the house often means widening doorways, removing thresholds and changing door handles and light switches to more usable positions. Getting in and out may need a ramp, a level path, a wider front door or handrails on external steps. Larger adaptations include a downstairs bedroom or bathroom, sometimes as an extension, and lifts between floors.
Age-friendly changes are often smaller: better lighting on stairs, a second banister, rails by the front door, easier taps, or moving a washing machine up to a comfortable height. Many are cheap compared with the difference they make.

In Malta: permits, licences and the business behind the quote
Whether the work needs a development permit from the Planning Authority depends on what is built and where; in apartment blocks, the rules of the condominium also apply. Ask before you commit, and let the business tell you which documents it needs from you.
Electrical installation work is carried out by licensed electricians; ask to see the licence and the certificate for the finished installation. Maltese businesses are registered with the Malta Business Registry, so ask for the company registration and VAT numbers, and check whether the quote includes VAT.

One request, one business: how Offrano works

We check only that it is a registered business, for example through its Malta Business Registry entry or VAT number, not the quality of its work. We cannot promise that a business will respond; if nobody takes the request within 21 days, we withdraw it. Offrano is not a party to any contract for the work.

Can I have the work done and claim the grant afterwards?
No. Wait for the written approval before booking the builder to begin.
Is a wet room better than a level-access shower tray?
A wet room has no tray at all, so it suits wheelchair users and shower chairs, but it needs a fully waterproofed floor and a proper fall. A low-profile or level-access tray is simpler to install and can be enough if a small lip is manageable. The occupational therapist's advice should guide the choice.
Do I need my landlord's permission for adaptations?
Yes, for anything that alters the property.
How do I check a business in Malta?
Ask for its company registration number, which you can check with the Malta Business Registry, and its VAT number.

Why does only one business get my request?
So that you are not called by several firms at once. The business that takes it on has the request to itself.
Can I withdraw my request?
Yes, through the link in any email from Offrano. If a business has already taken it on, we pass your withdrawal to it straight away.
