Temporary workers let you cover a busy season, a big order or a sudden absence without taking on permanent staff. The arrangement is three-sided: the agency, legally an employment business, engages and pays the worker, while you direct the day-to-day work. That split brings rules on equal treatment, fees for taking a temp on permanently and, more recently, responsibility for how workers are paid through umbrella companies. Here is what a hirer needs to know, and how to send your requirement to an agency.

What you are buying
The agency charges you an hourly or daily rate. Out of it, it pays the worker's wages, holiday pay, employer's National Insurance and pension contributions, and keeps a margin. When comparing rates, ask each agency for the breakdown between pay rate and charge rate, and confirm whether overtime, night and weekend work are charged at different rates.
General workers for picking, packing or production lines are usually easy to find at short notice. Skilled workers such as electricians, welders, forklift drivers or HGV drivers are fewer, and the agency should check their cards, licences and certificates before supply. For seasonal peaks, brief the agency weeks before you need people; for short-notice cover, ask what it can realistically fill by tomorrow morning.
In Ireland: data protection and registration
The GDPR applies to candidate data; in Ireland the Data Protection Commission is the supervisory authority. If a supplier processes personal data on your behalf, you need a data processing agreement.
Irish companies are registered with the Companies Registration Office. Ask for the company number and VAT number, and check whether prices are quoted with or without VAT.

You confirm your mobile number with a text code and your email address with a link. We then show the request to businesses in your area, without your name or contact details. Only one business can take it on; it pays Offrano for the request, and it costs you nothing.
Before that business sees your details, we email you its name, address and phone number. We check only that it is a registered business, for example through its Companies Registration Office entry or VAT number, not the quality of its work. We cannot promise that a business will respond; if nobody takes the request within 21 days, we withdraw it. Offrano is not a party to any contract for the work.
Frequently asked questions
When do agency workers get equal pay?
After 12 continuous calendar weeks in the same role with the same hirer, they are entitled to the same basic working and employment conditions, including pay, as if you had recruited them directly. Access to facilities and to information about vacancies applies from day one.
Do we need a licensed agency?
For agricultural work, shellfish gathering and processing or packaging agricultural produce, fish or shellfish, yes: the provider needs a gangmasters licence, and using an unlicensed one is an offence. For other work there is no general licence requirement.
Will my request go to several agencies?
No. Only one agency can buy it, and we email you its details before it receives yours.

Yes, through the link in any email from Offrano. If a business has already taken it on, we pass your withdrawal to it straight away.
What does the request cost me?
